If it gets you through the day okay, it gets you through.

Everyone has little vices, right? Little habits, rituals, things they do that help them feel okay in the world.

Some of them are very left of centre, and some of them downright gross. Oh, come on, you know it.

I was talking to a friend about our vices the other day, and I realised mine are pretty tame, really. Some people might call them…boring.

But, they’re mine and they help when your head is swarming with things-to-do-people-to-respond-to-don’t-drop-that-ball-stuff.

These are mine:

1. Smoking. It needs to end though. It really does. I just don’t know what to replace it with.

2. 9GAG. The most useless collection of random stuff to ever exist, but I defy you to not laugh after spending half an hour just scrolling. 9GAG calms me down.

3. Particularly useful when I’m having one of those *whatthehellamIdoingwithmylifeIfeelpointless” days, FML guarantees a giggle.

4. Making lists. I would make lists of my lists If I could. Actually, for Christmas, CAN I JUST HAVE NOTEPADS? Magnetic ones, especially. I love those little items of list-making legend. Just writing this list calmed me down after a *bit* of a morning.

5. Learning new things. I realise a lot of people say that, but it’s true. I’ve recently done two big projects work-wise, and have enjoyed them. I even, at one point, found them quite soothing. Because, once I’d learnt about it as best I could, pegged down a system to get it done and picked up nuances along the way, I absolutely loved it. It’s made me realise I spent a lot of time in my 20s just doing what I could to get by, and not really delving into a lot of things I should have (that’s not regret talking, by the way, it was survival and I accept that). But now that I’m roaring across the thirties, I feel like learning is exciting. Not that I’m about to sign myself up for another degree, though. I just cannot fathom how people do that, whilst juggling work and family life. I battle already for time.
