this popped into my head this evening…

Shoo, it’s been a long and intense week of work. Am finally putting my laptop away, after this blogpost.

This popped into my head today:

Dr Seuss, that bastion of childhood reading, marvelled over by many, much like Roald Dahl and so many other classics that we all know and love.

It got me thinking though, where did this love of these classics come from? Naturally, they come from our parents. Today I happened upon a charity sale, with books, CDs and nicknacks. I picked up a few books for me, Shmooshy and the kid, and a CD of soundtrack to a musical my parents used to love. I have fond, fond memories of my dad breaking out into “Tonight” at random times. I turned on that CD this evening, and my kid and I danced around the house. She’s super keen to learn all the words, and that makes my heart sing.

Like I said recently, grandparents are the greatest gifts. And, for me, if my kid can’t have her grandparents here…if it’s not possible for her to sit on their laps and hear their stories anymore, at least I give her all the memories that live in my heart. I can give her that soundtrack, and stories, and in some way, some funny family way, she’ll know them like I did. Like I do. Like I miss them every day.
