Psychos Near The Marrows

So, there we were. Just a quick trip to our local shop… I think I’ll just set the scene…

We rush in, post-work and school, to pick up a few odds and ends. Cam is choosing apples (she picks her own fruit) and this insane woman, from out of nowhere says to her, rather abruptly:

“What are you doing with that apple?”

Cameron looked at her in fright and I shot around and said

“she’s picking her apple for breakfast tomorrow”

Insane woman retorts and says:

“Children shouldn’t be left to pick their own groceries!”

Irked Cath says:

“Um, actually, I let my kid pick her own fruit. Don’t you let your kids pick their own fruit?”

Insane woman says:

“No, I don’t have children. Where is her father? Someone should be teaching her not to touch!”

F***ed off Cath now says:

“Actually, I’m a single parent. And, frankly, your approach to fruit is rather unhealthy. I’ll get your opinion when you spawn”

(at which point, Cam is now cowering behind me, crying. this peeves me no end. Nobody makes my kid cry).

Insane woman says:

“It’s no wonder our society is the way it is. All you single parents are going against God”

(yes, audience of 11, you read that right)

F***edoffbeyondbelief Cath reigns in her venom and says:

“Um, excuse me, random lady, but stick your opinion in your pocket. We’re busy choosing apples here, thanks”

To which the insane woman replies, screaming:

“You type are ruining society! God will punish you! You’re doomed to hell and you’re taking your child with you!”

To which f***edoffirkedCathwithverylittlerestraintandwhoisnowholding
ahystericalCamonherhip says:

“You know, lady, you walk in here, shout at my kid, pick on my fruit choosing and now you’re telling me I’m evil? Lady, do me a favour and f*** off”

Insane lady says:

“Your crude language in front of your child!”

Cath, who by now is just the WrathofCath:

“My f***ing language is nothing in comparison to your f***ing judgement and clear Food Nazi issues*”

At this point, I dropped my basket, and walked out the shop. She continued to yell.

I coulda hit her. Truth is, though, I will never condone physical violence, and will never demonstrate it in front of Cam.

But. One day. One day, that same lady is going to be in that same store. And I’m going to be shopping alone.

That’s all I’m saying.

Exhale.

*p.s. props to G for that term. heh. x
