Okay, I’m doing this now because I cannot control myself any longer. I’m going to make these 9 little guidelines…
1. Lose vs Loose. You lose something. You set something loose.
2. Definitely vs Definately. You’ll definitely get my red pen treatment if you spell it “definately”.
3. Weird vs Wierd. Just say it out loud. Please. I know you’ll look weird doing it in public. You’ll look even weirder trying to say “wierd”.
4. Your vs. You’re. Your spelling is atrocious. You’re all the way over there though, so I can’t give you the red pen treatment.
5. Genius vs. Genus. You are not a genius. Your genus may have had something to do with that.
6. Calendar vs. Calender. Well now, if you put my birthday on your calender, I can’t even be sure you’ve got the date correct. Please put me on your calendar.
7. Whether vs. Weather. You can choose whether or not to take an umbrella in this weather.
8. There vs. Their vs. They’re. Over there, you will find their socks. Also, if they’re not at home, they’ll be over there.
9. Grammar vs. Grammer. Look, if you can’t even spell grammar…please stop typing and go check out the dictionary first.
