Help Thandi.

There are a few things very close to my heart, and one of those is the importance of education.

You see, dear audience, I have a kid who loves maths. She loves it like I love words, and that’s saying a lot. She has big dreams and an even bigger heart. She was born on the 19th of June. She loves netball and wants to learn to play tennis. She loves school the most.

Today, I checked up on my friend V, who I knew was going ahead with something to help someone. I read up on it. And stared.

You see, folks, there are seemingly insurmountable issues in our world, our country and heck – even our very own picket fence neighbourhoods. But, sometimes, something small comes along that is tangible, doable and instantly impactful.

Today, that thing, for me, is Help Thandi.

Thandi is a bright girl, who dreams of being an accountant, because she loves maths. She loves netball and tennis. She was also born on the 19th of June. She also loves school the most.

That brought something home to me – that this child, who I’ve never met, who seems so familiar…is someone I can help.

I don’t have millions. Heck, I don’t even have thousands. But what I do have is an overwhelming desire to help, and…my daughter does too.

I told my kid about Thandi today, and that she might not be able to return to school because she her parents are battling to pay the fees. So I said we could help her. I told her that Thandi liked so many of the things she did, and that they share a birthday. She insisted I send money immediately… that’s my kid, I just follow the orders.

So, I have. I have sent a little something and to #HelpThandi. Can you?
